Lazertran Projects

Lazertran Christmas projects

Lazertran and Lazertran Silk transfer papers can be used in many ways. Although the project to follow is for Christmas, all the techniques can be used for other festive seasons and your regular craft work as well making the transfer of images onto any surface so much easier than it has been before. The list is endless. Candles, glass, wood ceramics, metal and metal foil, polymer clay, stamping, canvas, paper, cotton, silk and ribbons.

Candles

Pictured below are 4 candles, 3 have used Lazertraned images and for the 4th we have stamped and embossed onto a sheet of Lazertran.

You will need:

  1. A packet of Lazertran transfer paper for artists
  2. Blank candles
  3. Images of your choice (perhaps some old Xmas cards)
  4. Bowl of water
  5. Scissors
  6. Rubber squeegee. (Pull the rubber out of a window cleaner and cut into 3" length)
  7. Hairdryer

Method

  1. Have your Xmas images printed onto a sheet of Lazertran using a colour photo copier
  2. Cut to size then place in a bowl of water. The images will roll up
  3. Allow to soak for at least one minute then unroll
  4. Slide the image off the backing sheet and apply to the candle
  5. Using the rubber squeegee, remove any air bubbles
  6. Dry with a hairdryer pressing the transfer down onto the candle
  7. If you have a rounded candle then the hairdryer will allow you to stretch the transfer around any difficult curves

For the stamped and embossed candle

You will need:

  1. Anti static cloth. (The type you use for spectacles) so as the embossing powder only sticks to the ink and not the shiny surface of the Lazertran
  2. Waterproof stamping ink pad
  3. Embossing powder
  4. Heat gun or domestic oven

Method

  1. Wipe a sheet of Lazertran with the anti static cloth
  2. Stamp your design onto the sheet of Lazertran using waterproof stamping ink
  3. Whilst the ink is still wet sprinkle embossing powder over the ink
  4. Shake off excess powder ( flicking the back of the paper helps to remove any excess powder still clinging to the paper
  5. Fuse the embossing powder using a heat gun or put the sheet of Lazertran into the oven until the embossing powder melts. Now just apply as you did for the other candles

Glass baubles, glasses and lanterns

Plain glass, or light coloured baubles are the best. The method is the same as the candles but you will have to use a hairdryer in order to stretch out any creases.

Plain glass, or light coloured baubles are the best. The method is the same as the candles but you will have to use a hairdryer in order to stretch out any creases. It's a little tricky but take your time, heat and stitch a little at a time and repeat until they are stretch over the curve. practice makes perfect!

To decorate these surfaces you will need the same materials as the other projects above but this time after applying the images we are going to do something special.

To decorate these surfaces you will need the same materials as the other projects above but this time after applying the images we are going to do something special. You probably will not want your expensive Champagne glass decorated for the rest of the year or perhaps you will use other designs for other occasions. If so, here is the method. The transfer can be removed by soaking in water for about 30 minutes. You can rinse and let dry for use over Xmas.

Method

  1. Apply the transfers as before and leave to dry overnight
  2. Set your domestic oven to as low as possible and place the glass or ceramic tiles into the oven
  3. Leave for at least one hour
  4. Increase the temperature as little as possible and leave for a further 15 minutes
  5. Continue to increase the temperature slowly till the transfer melts and gets shiny. This will be at about 180 degrees C or gas mark 6

Tips

For glass ask the copy shop to print the image with the colour set at maximum density.
