Lazertran Techniques
Lazertran with turpentine on wood
Lazertran can be used on absorbent surfaces such as wood, using real turpentine, substitutes will not work. Below we have decorated boxes of various types using this method.
- Copy the image onto a sheet of Lazertran using a colour photo copier or our new Lazertran Inkjet for your Inkjet printer
- Soak in water to release the decal and wipe off any excess moisture
- Paint the surface of the raw wood with real turpentine then carefully slide the decal or transfer off the backing sheet a few inches
- Lift and drop the transfer until in the right place then allow the paper to fall flat on the wood
- Slide out the backing sheet and carfully expel any large air bubbles
- Leave for a few hours and the decal will melt into the wood
- When dry, if there are any parts that have not melted into the wood then a small amount of turpentine can be re-applied to the image to complete the melting
- When dry the image can be varnished
NOTE: Lazertran Inkjet will dry with a white background. To make this transparent apply at least 2 coats of oil/spirit based polyurathane.
